About the Role

Australia's energy landscape is undergoing a significant transformation, with a growing focus on renewable energy sources and reducing carbon emissions. As an Energy Systems Planner at Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliable and efficient operation of the national electricity market.

Your primary responsibility will be to lead a technical team responsible for planning and implementing system design projects that support the integration of new technologies and resources into the grid. This will involve working closely with stakeholders across the industry, including generator operators, network service providers, and other key players.

You will be instrumental in developing and implementing solutions that address the complex challenges associated with integrating intermittent renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power, into the grid. Your expertise will help ensure that the national electricity market remains stable, secure, and efficient as we transition towards a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a technical team responsible for planning and implementing system design projects that support the integration of new technologies and resources into the grid.
  • Work closely with stakeholders across the industry, including generator operators, network service providers, and other key players to develop and implement solutions that address the complex challenges associated with integrating intermittent renewable energy sources into the grid.
  • Develop and maintain detailed models of the national electricity market, including generator and network data, to inform decision-making and optimize system performance.
  • Provide regulatory support and integrate technical reform outcomes from the Connection Reform Initiatives to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Contribute to the development of best practices and guidelines for energy systems planning and design, and participate in industry forums and conferences to share knowledge and expertise.
  • Maintain a high level of technical knowledge and stay up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in the energy sector.

Requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Strong background in energy systems planning and design, with experience in leading medium- to large-scale projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise in modeling and simulation tools, including GENESYS and PSS/E.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, with experience in working with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and develop informed recommendations.
