Expert Backend Engineer

At our company, engineering is about delivering real value for users and solving complex problems at scale. As an Expert Backend Engineer, you'll work with product managers, designers, and frontend engineers to deliver end-to-end experiences that have a significant user impact.

About This Role

You'll be leading the design and development of scalable, reliable backend services using modern frameworks and tools. You'll drive collaboration with PMs, designers, and fellow engineers to scope, define, and deliver impactful product features.

Evolving and scaling our backend architecture through thoughtful service design, system decomposition, and shared tooling will also be a key part of your role. You'll champion reliability, performance, and engineering best practices across multiple service domains.

Writing robust, well-tested code and proactively identifying areas for technical improvement or refactor are essential skills for this role. Guiding design and code reviews, mentoring peers, and raising the technical bar for your team are also important responsibilities.

Maintaining and improving service health, observability, and incident resilience in partnership with your team will be critical to your success in this role.

The Ideal Candidate

We're looking for highly experienced engineers who have built complex backend systems in production environments. Strong Java fundamentals and the ability to confidently write production-grade code are essential.

Comfortable taking ownership of features end-to-end—from architecture to delivery—and thriving in environments where you drive the 'how' are also must-haves. Attention to detail and pragmatism, along with consistently shipping reliable, maintainable code at speed, are also critical skills.

A thoughtful collaborator who works well across disciplines and proactively brings others on the journey is also a key requirement. Understanding the bigger picture—how your systems connect to product goals, reliability, and long-term scalability—is also essential.
