Pastoral Care Specialist

Are you a compassionate professional with expertise in holistic care? This role involves providing emotional support and spiritual guidance to individuals from diverse backgrounds.

We are seeking a skilled Pastoral Care Practitioner to join our team on a casual basis. The successful candidate will be based primarily in South Brisbane, focusing on Mater Mothers' Hospital. However, the role may involve working on other campuses depending on operational requirements.

Mater is a leading healthcare service committed to delivering exceptional care to patients. As a Pastoral Care Specialist, you will provide spiritual and emotional support to individuals from various religious, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.

  • Engage in pastoral care at the bedside, demonstrating empathy and compassion while supporting patients and their families.
  • Facilitate small-medium size groups for meditation, mindfulness sessions, debriefs, and staff well-being activities.
  • Offer prayer and spiritual guidance when requested or appropriate.
  • Meet the spiritual needs of patients and their families through individualized care.
  • Perform advocacy roles where necessary, ensuring patients receive the best possible care.
  • Provide short-term follow-up support as needed.
  • BUILD positive relationships with staff members to facilitate patient care.
  • Participate in regular meetings with the healthcare team to optimize patient outcomes.
About You

To excel in this role, you should possess:

  • An undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Human Services related fields such as Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, Interfaith Studies, Chaplaincy, or Coaching.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating groups for meditation, mindfulness, and staff well-being activities.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience providing Pastoral Care and Spiritual Support in clinical environments.
  • The ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • A grounded spirituality based on regular practice.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and faith traditions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility to work in various wards and locations.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and growth.
