About the Role

Suncorp Group is seeking an experienced claims professional to join our team as a Technical Specialist.

Job Description

  • As a Technical Specialist, you will be responsible for providing technical decision-making for specialty claims teams across portfolios.
  • You will serve as the next-level decision-maker for complex claim referrals from senior claims officers and leaders.
  • You will coach and mentor senior claims officers, claims officers, and coaches.
  • You will support the design and implementation of processes and internal controls to ensure adherence to risk frameworks and applicable regulations.
  • You will collaborate with the National Manager to set benchmarks for technical performance, fostering a high-performing and engaging team environment.
  • You will design and implement improvements to elevate technical decision-making within specialty claims teams and the broader Commercial Claims business.
  • You will critically assess legal panel advice and support claims officers in implementing reserving and claims strategies, ensuring decisions are both commercially and customer-focused.
  • You will manage internal and external stakeholder expectations regarding likely claim outcomes and portfolio impacts.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will have a strong track record in resolving large, technically complex claims, both directly and through mentoring others. They will possess strong commercial acumen, pragmatic advice, and a customer-centric approach, developed through diverse claims management experience.

Skills & Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience managing complex claims across financial lines and professional indemnity risks.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in coaching and people development.
  • Experience in a similar role is highly desirable.
  • Experience as an associate or senior associate-level lawyer in an insurance law firm is highly desirable.
