The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on coding experience across multiple languages and paradigms, with a strong focus on performance and scalability. They will be responsible for researching and developing tools and processes to drive significant increases in code quality and development productivity, specifically within the area of performance.
The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of build and deployment systems, with a history of implementing and optimizing these processes in complex environments. They will also have excellent communication skills, with the ability to discuss and distill complex topics in interpersonal settings.
Responsibilities include:
- Architect, develop, and document robust, scalable software solutions using the correct framework/paradigm/language for the job
- Advocate for, design and implement improvements to the stability, observability, and robustness of our systems
- Promote a culture of performance engineering within MongoDB by giving presentations, creating documentation, and providing an opinionated user-focused experience in our tools
- Establish relationships with other software engineers at MongoDB to understand, advocate for, and solve their issues
Success Measures:
- In 1 month, you will acquire a good understanding of our tools and systems and be capable of addressing simple user inquiries or directing more complex questions to the appropriate person
- In 3 months, you will have regular communication with other engineers and effectively balance our roadmap with customer interests in meetings
- In 6 months, you will be able to advocate for new features and bug fixes by proposing specific additions or modifications to our codebases
- In 12 months, you will have made significant contributions to the team's objectives, both technically through leading the implementation of meaningful projects, and collaboratively by contributing to the projects, features, and bug fixes of others
