The General Dynamics Corporation is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Systems Engineer to support the design, construction, and testing of in-service Navy DDG 51 and DDG 1000 surface combatants. The successful candidate will work closely with our experienced team to develop and implement innovative solutions for distributed shipboard mechanical systems.

This role requires a strong understanding of fluid mechanics and experience with design of distributed systems. Familiarity with marine and military systems is also preferred. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering and be able to obtain a government security clearance.

The selected individual will perform various tasks, including sizing calculations, responding to Functional Engineering Analysis Requests, and developing material requirement documents. They will also review and approve vendor submittals and assist Navy with system troubleshooting and development of changes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and development of distributed shipboard mechanical systems
  • Evaluation of impact to ship margin for Navy proposed changes
  • Derivation of engineering system requirements from Navy sources
  • Development of engineering schematics or written direction to detail design
  • Review and approval of vendor submittals and design products
