Spatial Data Management Specialist

Randstad is partnering with a Queensland Government Department to recruit a GIS Specialist/Analyst for an 8-month contract with potential extension. Based in Brisbane, this role offers flexible work-from-home arrangements.

The primary objective of this role is to mitigate service delivery and reputational risks by developing organisational capability and consistency in spatial data management processes and delivery of quality spatial information products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advancing the implementation and uptake of existing tools to improve data visualisation through maps and related reports.
  • Enhancing data value through:
  • Improved management of source data within the system for easier and faster map usage.
  • Simplifying data discovery and use to generate maps.
  • Ongoing review and update of available map layers and features to meet current needs.
Developing GIS capability across program areas to support activities through better mapping.Establishing a GIS framework, including standardising tools, techniques, metadata capture, and data management.Collaborating with service providers and business areas on licencing, platforms, and technologies.Providing essential mapping services during emergencies, incidents, and exercises.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • At least 3 years of experience in managing and using the ESRI suite of products.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic and operational spatial information.
  • Experience working in geographically distributed public sector organisations.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing, maintaining, and organising large amounts of spatial data, with an understanding of data integrity and quality control issues.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.

Desirable Criteria (not mandatory):

  • Experience working in scientific, emergency response, and/or disaster recovery organisations.
  • Developing custom GIS applications and tools to meet specific project or user requirements.
  • Providing training and technical support to GIS users within an organisation.
  • Open layer experience.
  • Experience working with GeoJSON and/or WKT formats.
