About the Role

We're seeking an experienced Development Manager to join our Strategy and Portfolio Development team in Melbourne. As a key member of our team, you'll be responsible for leading land and planning activities for large-scale dispatchable assets under development by Shell Energy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the identification of new power development opportunities, including greenfield sites that require initial discussions and negotiations with landowners;
  • Progress renewable and firming energy sites from greenfield and early stage development to financial close;
  • Lead all aspects of the development function, including site selection, planning, and obtaining necessary permits and approvals, liaison with relevant stakeholders, and contract negotiation;
  • Responsible for obtaining, maintaining, and complying with approvals (specifically Development Approval, secondary consents). Ensure development risks are managed and understood to enable Final Investment Decision and Financial Close.
  • Manage project teams of multidisciplinary internal and external resources;
  • Management of contracts and contractors, requisitions, orders, and invoices associated with projects;
  • Development of required inputs for management papers, Board papers, and commercial negotiations as required – this includes regular liaison with internal stakeholders and service providers in legal, finance, engineering, commercial, etc.
  • Support contracts preparation, negotiation, and execution, including EPC, O&M/LTSA, D&C, and Supply and Commissioning contracts;
  • Oversee local community consultation and engagement.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience within the Australian energy sector and knowledge of the power generation competitive landscape and market rules, regulations, and players;
  • Excellent knowledge of grid connection processes in the east and west coast jurisdictions, together with the relevant NER rules;
  • Proven experience as a project developer, including extensive experience in early stage planning and development of site selection, environmental assessment, and permitting process;
  • Knowledge and experience of site selection, environmental assessment, and the permitting processes;
  • Drive and ambition to lead multiple projects through the early stage project life cycle;
  • Excellent stakeholder management capabilities;
  • Experience in sourcing, building, and managing strong industry and customer relationships;
  • The ability to engage and collaborate effectively across multi-functional teams and interface with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, based in various locations;
  • Experience and/or understanding of electricity retailing, financial markets, including futures;
  • An ability to visit sites as required;
  • Degree in engineering, finance, environmental planning, or relevant equivalent is required.

Salary and Benefits
