About the Role

The Public Sector People team is seeking a highly skilled Senior Waste Contracts and Projects Officer to join our client's Waste and Resource Recovery Branch on a 6-month contract basis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development, procurement, and management of waste and resource recovery contracts.
  • Represent the Council as the operational contract representative, ensuring effective contract management.
  • Provide technical expertise on waste management, resource recovery, and circular economy initiatives.
  • Oversee the planning, procurement, and supervision of waste and recycling service contracts.
  • Liaise with contractors to negotiate variations, assess performance, and ensure contract compliance.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to refine waste services and resolve service issues.
  • Act as an escalation point for contract and operational matters.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices in waste management.
  • Manage assigned contract administration projects and prepare reports for decision-making.
Requirements
  • Relevant qualification with proven experience and expertise in waste management.
  • Strong knowledge of waste and recycling policies, legislation, and service delivery issues affecting local government.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear reports and deliver presentations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for negotiating with contractors and resolving contractual issues.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other corporate software.
  • Strong organizational skills, including project management, prioritization, and the ability to meet deadlines and deliver projects within budget.
