About the Role

Aerospace Engineers play a critical role in the Australian Defence Force, leading engineering teams to acquire, sustain, maintain, and manage technology. They work on state-of-the-art aircraft, infrastructure, weapons, and related systems, ensuring safe and efficient operation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead engineering teams to design, develop, and implement solutions for complex technical problems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure effective project management and delivery.
  • Develop and maintain technical expertise in areas such as aircraft structures, propulsion, and electronic systems.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and other stakeholders.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments and advancements in aerospace engineering.
Specializations

Aerospace Engineers can specialize in one of three areas:

  • Aeronautical (AERO) - responsible for aircraft structures, propulsion, and associated mechanical systems.
  • Armament (ARMO) - responsible for weapons, weapons systems, and associated test equipment and bomb disposal.
  • Electronic/Electrical (ELECTR) - responsible for airborne power generation and distribution, electronic/electrical control systems, instrument and navigation systems, automatic test equipment, communications, and RADAR and SONAR equipment.
Professional Development

Aerospace Engineers undergo a Professional Development and Training (PD&T) year, rotating through different roles and undergoing Initial Employment Training. They may also pursue post-graduate training and certifications to enhance their skills and expertise.
