At QinetiQ, we are seeking a highly skilled Laser Scientist to join our Engineering Services team in Adelaide, South Australia.

You will be responsible for advising on the optical design aspects of laser and optical subsystems, including beam control and safety considerations.

Key responsibilities include designing, building, and testing laser and optical hardware and software systems, planning and technical leadership of projects, and providing input to larger projects as part of a team of subject matter experts.

Additionally, you will undertake technical tasks relating to high energy laser development, test, and evaluation, engage with relevant stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds, and assist in establishing and maturing laser lab operations.

To be successful in this role, you will need a working knowledge of laser systems, optics, and basic properties of laser beams, as well as extensive experience in setting up or constructing laser-oriented experiments or products.

Experience in modeling, experimentation, test, and evaluation, and analysis is also essential, as well as a good working knowledge of laboratory test and measurement equipment.

Desirable skills include experience with fiber lasers, optical engineering, and theoretical modeling or simulation experience, particularly with propagation of light in atmosphere or thermal modeling due to absorption of optical radiation.
