Consultant Psychiatrist/Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Specialist

St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne is seeking a highly skilled Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry team. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will provide high-quality clinical services to consumers of SVHM and SVMH, contributing to service evaluation and research, and demonstrating a commitment to ongoing learning and professional development in psychiatry.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and treat referred consumers, organizing psychiatric follow-up as required.
- Provide secondary consultation and information to general hospital staff on psychiatric disorders, treatments, mental health services, the Mental Health Act, and advice on managing difficult/complex behaviors.
- Support and monitor SVMH consumers requiring admission for medical/surgical treatment.
- Education of staff on mental health-related issues.
- Participation in mental health-related projects, policy development, and research.
- Promote liaison with relevant acute health, community, and inpatient services, Mental Health Community Support Services (MHCSS), private psychiatrists, and general practitioners.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery or equivalent.
- Fellowship of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or equivalent.
- Registration with AHPRA.
- Advanced Training Certificate in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry.
- Current National criminal history check, or willingness to obtain.

About the Department
St. Vincent's Mental Health (SVMH) includes an adult area mental health service for the inner city areas of Yarra and Boroondara. The adult mental health service components are: The Yarra Boroondara Primary Mental Health Service (PMHS), the Footbridge Community Care Unit (CCU), the 44-bed Acute Inconsumer Service (AIS) located on the St. Vincent's Hospital site, and two community mental health services (CMHS) at Hawthorn and East Melbourne (Clarendon CMHS).
