This is a critical role within the State of Washington's Crime Laboratory Division, where you will serve as a Forensic Scientist 4 and lead the Crime Scene Response Team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing the quality aspects of the CSRT, assigning and planning work, instructing and evaluating performance, and providing technical expertise to all CLD personnel.
Key Responsibilities- Perform laboratory analysis of physical evidence in complex casework using accepted scientific methods.
- Scientifically analyze evidence in routine and non-routine casework, maintaining the chain of custody and ensuring operational compliance with all certifications, accreditation, and legal standards.
- Respond to requests for assistance at crime scenes, maintaining the crime laboratory's quality processes and ensuring operational compliance.
- Provide technical expertise and assistance to all CLD personnel, participating in proficiency testing and training events.
- Assure that all assigned instruments have undergone performance checks and maintenance, participating in assessment preparation and the internal audit program.
- Testify in a court of law, presenting findings to a jury in a manner that is designed to be readily understood.
The primary setting for this role is an office, but you may be required to work in a forensic laboratory where chemical and biological hazards, drugs, firearms, and other hazards may be present. You will also be required to work at crime scenes in varying locations and environments.
Requirements- A baccalaureate or advanced degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science or forensic science from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of four years of technical experience in crime scene response as a forensic scientist.
- Valid, unrestricted Washington State Driver's License or ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
