We are seeking a highly skilled Fire Protection Design Standards Engineer to join our Colocation Design Standards team at Amazon Corporate Services Pty Ltd.

About the Role

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for driving design and availability consistency across our colocation data centers. You will work with leaders and Principal Engineers in our Colo engineering team and in the wider global engineering teams to set and update standards for colocation capacity. Your expertise will be essential in developing and maintaining global consistent colocation design standards to drive equivalent resilience in colocation data centers to AWS owned sites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain global consistent colocation design standards to drive equivalent resilience in colocation data centers to AWS owned sites.
  • Develop standards and processes to support local team in negotiations with colo fire engineering and local authorities.
  • Support the deployment of new AWS products in colocation data centers in a consistent way.
  • Input into global design standards and generational data center template designs.
  • Support as required regional colo engineering teams to review and accept proposed changes to the site-specific infrastructure against our data center standards, and document Accepted Deviations when appropriate.
  • Work with our global colocation partners to drive consistent solutions to expedite review processes and drive cost efficiency.
  • Set up global strategies to deploy specific products or designs, and drive key global colocation initiatives.
  • Documentation, release and management of design guides, standards, specifications and procedures.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, or an equivalent engineering degree in a related field with at least 5 years additional qualifying experience.
  • Cumulative 5+ years of experience in engineering or the construction industry, related to all aspects of fire protection, including fire suppression systems, fire alarm and detection systems, fire-resistive construction, and life safety.
  • 3+ years of fire engineering experience in data centers, preferably in colocation facilities.
  • Experience applying local codes, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards, International Code Council (ICC) requirements, and other fire protection industry standards, procedures, and methodologies.
  • Experience with processes of design review, specification, development of design standards, and submittal review.
  • Ability to read and understand construction documents for all trades (design drawings, control diagrams, specifications, etc.).
  • Excellent communication skills.
