Job Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Bioinformatics Specialist to join our team.

The successful candidate will provide technical support to the wet lab elements of sequencing and assist in delivering training to operational elements of the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to contribute to the development and operation of sensor and effector systems relevant to the ADF.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical support to the wet lab elements of sequencing, including sample preparation and PC2 laboratory work.
• Assist in delivering training to operational elements of the ADF.
• Contribute to the assessment and development of field-able detection and diagnostic technologies for the ADF.
• Work on the analysis of NGS data, including short and long read data, and hybrid assembly.
• Use and understand different taxonomy classifier tools and work in a Linux environment.
• Develop bioinformatics workflows/pipelines and install complex software and databases.
• Laboratory experience in nucleic acid sequencing, including sample and library preparation, and analysis using DNA sequencing platforms.

Requirements

• Experience working at the Physical Containment 2 (PC2) level.
• Knowledge of Next Generation Sequencing, nucleic acid amplification methods, immunoassays, and other emerging technologies.
• Ability to develop bioinformatics workflows/pipelines and work in a secure offline computing environment.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
