We are seeking an expert researcher to join our team. The successful candidate will have expertise in international disaster law and be responsible for examining evacuations within this field.

About the Role:
  • This is a five-year research program led by a leading academic.
  • The role involves conducting legal analysis of evacuations at various levels, including international, regional, and national.
  • The successful candidate will have excellent independent research skills and the capacity to engage in policymaking processes in Australia and elsewhere.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Examine how evacuations are understood and treated within international disaster law, including relevant frameworks and instruments.
  2. Investigate the relationship between disaster risk management, climate change adaptation, and the management of climate risks.
  3. Explore whether and how evacuations could be enhanced as a preparatory measure without contravening people's rights or constituting arbitrary displacement.
  4. Conduct fieldwork to explore how different States integrate evacuations into their domestic disaster risk reduction, disaster risk management, and related frameworks.
