
Science Laboratory Specialist

As a Science Laboratory Specialist, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our school's science facilities.
Key Responsibilities:- Sample Preparation and Setup: Prepare and set up samples, equipment, and scientific materials for practical teaching laboratory use. This includes setting up experiments, collecting data, and maintaining accurate records.
- Chemical Handling and Safety: Work independently in a science laboratory, recognising and safely managing chemical hazards. You will be responsible for storing and handling chemicals, waste, and equipment in accordance with departmental guidelines.
- Maintenance and Organisation: Maintain scientific resources, classrooms, and laboratories in a clean, safe, and orderly manner. This includes regular cleaning schedules, maintenance tasks, and organisation of equipment and supplies.
- Establishing Protocols and Methods: Establish and maintain laboratory protocols and methods to ensure consistency and accuracy in scientific procedures. You will work closely with colleagues to develop and implement new methods and procedures.
- School Community Engagement: Assist in promoting STEM initiatives to increase student engagement. This may involve developing and implementing programs to encourage students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
- Effective Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for this role. You will need to communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents to ensure seamless operations.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal and customer service skills are required to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. You will need to be able to handle sensitive situations and provide excellent customer service at all times.
- Independence and Motivation: The ability to work independently and be self-motivated is critical for this role. You will need to be able to manage your time effectively and prioritise tasks to meet deadlines.
- Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality are essential for this role. You will need to be able to maintain accurate records, handle confidential information, and ensure that sensitive information is kept secure.
- Multitasking and Pressure Management: Proven ability to multitask and work well under pressure is required for this role. You will need to be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, manage competing demands, and maintain a high level of performance even in challenging situations.
Experience in a similar position within a school is highly desirable.
