Senior Modelling Expert in Infectious Diseases Policy

About the Role:
The Senior Modelling Expert in Infectious Diseases Policy will oversee the development and implementation of model-based studies on endemic, epidemic, and emerging infectious diseases in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
This includes evaluating the benefits of alternative strategic deployments of vaccines and other countermeasures.
Responsibilities will include:
- Developing and implementing model-based studies of infectious diseases.
- Coordinating the synthesis of model findings and producing reports, drafting peer-reviewed publications.
- Providing day-to-day oversight and mentoring for graduate research students, with opportunities for formal supervision.
- Assisting with preparing responses to government Requests for Quotation, including budgets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate the effectiveness of model-based studies in informing policy decisions.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies and industry partners.
- Provide expert advice on the application of modelling techniques in policy development.
- Contribute to the development of policy briefs and other materials to support policy decision-making.
About You:
Applicants will possess a PhD in applied mathematics, mathematical biology, statistics, biostatistics, computer science, epidemiology, or an equivalent qualification.
Experience in producing computational code for mathematical models of biological systems, using languages like Python, R, or C++, as well as experience working across academia and government, developing and communicating modelling outputs to support policy decision-making.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills across disciplines and sectors.
Experience publishing peer-reviewed scientific articles.
