Senior Solicitor, Appellate Litigation Specialist

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions NSW is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Solicitor to join its Appellate Litigation Unit.
As a Senior Solicitor, you will be responsible for providing high-level legal advice and guidance to the Director on a range of matters, including appellate litigation in the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, Court of Criminal Appeal, and High Court.
You will have conduct of appeals in criminal matters and civil and other litigation in superior courts, and will perform advocacy as required in matters in the Appellate Litigation teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide advice to the Director on appellate litigation matters
- Conduct appeals in criminal matters and civil and other litigation in superior courts
- Perform advocacy as required in matters in the Appellate Litigation teams
- Instruct the Crown Solicitor in relation to civil and other litigation matters
- Brief and instruct counsel, including Crown Prosecutors and private barristers
- Guide and mentor more junior ODPP solicitors and paralegals
Requirements:
- Proven advocacy skills and extensive knowledge of criminal practice and procedure, in particular appellate and civil litigation in which the Director is a party
- Hold a degree or diploma in law and admission as an Australian legal practitioner
- Have obtained a Practising Certificate issued by the Law Society of NSW prior to commencing
- Ability to communicate effectively, influence and negotiate in order to gain consensus and commitment from others and resolve issues and conflicts
- Have the proven ability to engage and motivate staff and develop capability and potential in others
- Ability to meet tight deadlines in the conduct of matters and the provision of advice
