About the Opportunity

Southern Cross University is seeking an experienced Lawyer to join our dynamic legal team in Lismore. As a University Lawyer, you will provide essential legal advice and support across the University in areas such as leasing and property, commercial law, statutory interpretation, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide accurate legal advice, recommendations, and assistance to University employees and officers on general legal matters, state and federal legislation, policies and procedures, university statutes and regulations, legal agreements, intellectual property, construction, property, and leases.
  • Prepare legal documentation, including contracts and agreements.
  • Represent the University in tribunals and conciliations.
  • Manage cases and provide education on important legal matters and contract management.
Requirements
  • A degree in law and at least three years of relevant experience.
  • Sound commercial and property law experience, with a focus on drafting and advising on a variety of contracts.
  • Experience with IT software and hardware contracts, contracts for services, consultancy contracts, procurement contracts, funding agreements, leases, and licenses.
  • Demonstrated legal practice skills, including sound legal drafting skills, the ability to manage litigation, and to obtain instructions from internal clients.
  • Sound advocacy skills and experience responding to or appearing before tribunals and statutory authorities.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and proven success in educating and advising internal clients on legal issues through accurate and clear written advice, training sessions, and briefings.
