Job Title: Maternity Cover Orthoptist

We are seeking a skilled Orthoptist to cover a maternity leave position in our ophthalmic team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic and supportive environment, with exposure to a broad range of subspecialties.

About the Role

This is a full-time maternity cover position that will commence as soon as possible and continue until late 2026. There is potential for the role to transition into a permanent position following the contract period.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical & Diagnostic Duties:
    • Conduct comprehensive orthoptic assessments and manage a range of ocular conditions.
    • Perform diagnostic tests and measurements including visual acuity, refraction, visual fields, OCT, A-scans, pachymetry, topography, fundus photography, fluorescein angiography, anterior segment imaging, and IPL.
  • Pre-operative Care:
    • Cataract work-ups including patient counselling on intraocular lens options.
    • Refractive surgery counselling including PRK, LASIK, and SMILE.
  • Post-operative Care:
    • Run independent post-operative review clinics.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Orthoptics (or equivalent).
  • Registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Australian Orthoptic Board preferred, but not essential.
  • Experience in orthoptic assessments, diagnostics, and treatment planning is desirable.
  • Strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to professional development and a willingness to contribute to clinical education or research initiatives.
