About the Role
The Assistant Director, Work Health and Safety (WHS) plays a key role in delivering Finance's work health and safety program. The role operates under broad direction exercising a significant degree of independence to resolve WHS issues and deliver quality outcomes.
Main Responsibilities
- Lead the development, implementation, monitoring and review of Finance's work, health and safety strategic priorities including the work, health and safety management system and rehabilitation management system frameworks to ensure legislative and regulatory compliance.
- Develop and maintain key strategic relationships with stakeholders including Executive Board, Senior Management and Supervisors to consistently implement the WHS objectives across all Branches.
- Influence, negotiate and provide trusted advice on WHS operations across a range of stakeholders to ensure sustained and continual improvement.
- Consider the diverse range of stakeholder needs, accounting for the range of operational contexts in which Finance and its people operate and manage this with sensitivity and appropriate care.
- Undertake complex research and analysis activities to identify and address work health and safety risks to capability.
- Manage the reporting and investigation of incidents including leading serious incident investigation with sections to ensure appropriate analysis and effective mitigation/prevention of re occurrence.
- Lead whole of Finance safety risk management activities.
- Monitor and analyse WHS data to identify trends, emerging issues and improvement opportunities and report on WHS performance on a regular basis.
- Prepare complex and/or sensitive correspondence, corporate documents, reports, submissions, proposal papers and notes.
- Lead, coach and manage the WHS team to produce quality outcomes.
- Manage the WHS budget and procurement activities in accordance with the Commonwealth finance and procurement processes.
- Represent the section and Finance to internal and external stakeholders including Comcare and other safety regulators, Communities of Practice.
About You
- Have excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Work with stakeholders to develop safe work practices that promote a robust culture and best practice in legislative standards and compliance.
- Have a demonstrated ability to prioritise, meet deadlines, and work autonomously within a team environment, all with a proactive approach.
