About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our design group, you will play a critical role in planning, developing, and reviewing mechanical design work for medium-sized projects or assignments.

Job Summary

This position involves producing high-quality drawings and documentation, preparing design estimates, and coordinating with clients and technical teams. You will also be responsible for mentoring junior designers and ensuring that mechanical systems designs comply with all relevant regulations and standards.

Main Responsibilities
  • Plan, develop, coordinate, and review design work within a small-size mechanical design work group on projects of medium size or assignments in support of global business units.
  • Produce drawings and documentation in accordance with established design and scope, including design of earthwork, drainage, road design, foundation, and steel detailing.
  • Coordinate and interface as directed with the day-to-day technical work of mechanical engineers, scientists, specialists, designers, and drafters.
  • Communicate complex technical issues and recommend solutions to upper management.
  • Prepare or oversee the preparation of mechanical design estimates and work plans in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget, and manage implementation and performance accordingly.
  • Develop Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), Bechtel design guides, appropriate Bechtel Standard Computer Applications (BSAPs), and administrative practices.
  • Coordinate with client representatives as delegated to obtain approval on phases of work.
  • Review key mechanical engineering drawings and calculations and bid summaries.
  • Mentor mechanical designers and drafters by providing appropriate on-the-job training for their professional development.
  • Ensure mechanical systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
  • Bulk materials handling experience is essential.
  • Proven experience in engineering design tools such as Autodesk Inventor, Bentley MicroStation, and Navisworks.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work well with other team members.
  • Work with senior designers in other disciplines to coordinate overall design and technical requirements.
