Construction Specialist Job Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Construction Specialist to join our team at our Fire Testing Laboratory in Melbourne.

  • To construct various test specimens involving timber and steel framing, plasterboard, blockwork, concrete as well as preparing service installations such as pipes and cables.
  • Following drawings and other instructions to construct test specimens in accordance with client requirements.
  • Prepare test specimens, furnaces and other auxiliary equipment for the testing process. This may include instrumentation, calibration and equipment set up.
  • Use initiative to find solutions to potential construction challenges.
  • Demolition and clean-up of specimen after testing.
  • First line maintenance of both fixed and mobile plant equipment.

This role requires hands-on construction experience, particularly in carpentry, fitting or handyman roles. You will need to be physically fit, able to perform manual tasks and regularly move and lift 20kg loads.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Site experience within the construction sector and familiar with general construction methods.
  • Experienced in the use of hand and power tools.
  • Able to read, interpret and follow construction drawings.
  • Well-developed communication skills and basic computer literacy with exposure to Word and Excel.
