The Role

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) - Drug and Alcohol role at IHMS is a critical part of our Drug and Alcohol team. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing clinical leadership and ongoing improvement and review of triage and treatment planning for patients on opioid substitution treatment programs (OSTP)
  • Offering clinical resources and advanced support and liaison at a local level on matters related to drug and alcohol
  • Facilitating and liaising with local and external stakeholders/service providers to ensure continuity of care
  • Specialist assessment and management of withdrawal states, pharmacotherapies, intoxication, and overdose states
  • Providing assistance to local and central leadership teams to ensure smooth operation of D&A-related care and services

Requirements
  • Current AHPRA Registration as a Div. 1 Registered Nurse
  • Minimum of 3 years recent clinical experience working with people with drug and alcohol use or concerns, in a D&A setting, including experience in opioid substitution treatment
  • Advanced clinical assessment skills and management of alcohol and drug issues
  • Good knowledge of harm minimization principles
  • Current BLS or First Aid certificate (or willingness to obtain it)
