About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Senior Labour Relations Specialist to join our team at Amazon. As a key member of our organisation, you will play a vital role in ensuring that our operations comply with labour laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Representing Amazon in Labour Disputes

  • Serve as the primary representative of Amazon in conciliation meetings with the Australian Fair Work Commission (FWC) and other labour arbitration bodies.
  • Clearly articulate Amazon's position, policies, and relevant regulations during conciliation proceedings.
  • Negotiate and advocate for mutually beneficial resolutions while safeguarding Amazon's interests and adhering to legal guidelines.

Providing Legal Support and Risk Mitigation

  • Collaborate with the legal, enforcement, and policy teams to assess and mitigate risks associated with labour disputes, compliance issues, and regulatory changes.
  • Conduct thorough analyses of all claims, evidence available, and potential repercussions of pursuing arbitration to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Advise internal and external legal counsel on specifics and intricacies of SLS and FACT enforcement.
  • Provide closed-loop feedback to enforcement program owners to continue proactive risk mitigation initiatives.

Preparing and Managing Case Files

  • Gather, organise, and maintain comprehensive case files, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality.
  • Conduct deep dives, gather evidence with the support of the Flex I&O team, and conference with relevant stakeholders to support case preparation and defence.
  • Coordinate with internal departments and external counsel to align on case strategies and timelines.

Risk Assessment and Strategy Development

  • In conjunction with PC2, identify emerging risks, regulatory trends, and arbitration case outcomes impacting Amazon's operations, policies, and employee relations.
  • Cross-functionally develop proactive risk mitigation strategies and policy recommendations to minimise legal exposure and enhance compliance.
  • Develop and provide guidance and training to internal stakeholders on best practices when representing Amazon as a 'witness' in arbitration proceedings.

Monitoring Compliance and Reporting

  • Monitor compliance of internal policies relating directly to the Digital Labour Platform Deactivation Code (DLDP), identifying areas for improvement or corrective action.
  • Prepare regular reports and presentations for senior management and legal on enforcement-related risks, trends, conciliation, and arbitration outcomes.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in compliance, audit, or risk management.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications.
  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Experience engaging with regulatory agencies in permit applications or equivalent.
  • Experience developing and implementing standards, policies, and programs or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience in building cross-functional partnerships and influencing stakeholders across the organisation is highly desirable.
