
Expert Psychiatric Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled psychiatrist to join our team as a specialist in emergency psychiatry. The successful candidate will work closely with our emergency department team to provide expert psychiatric care for patients presenting with mental health crises.
Responsibilities- Provide comprehensive psychiatric assessments and interventions for patients in the emergency department.
- Collaborate with emergency physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to develop effective treatment plans.
- Authorise involuntary treatment and facilitate admission to the psychiatric unit or inpatient facilities as required.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality clinical services in a fast-paced environment. This includes:
- Embedding within the emergency department to deliver timely and compassionate psychiatric care.
- Ensuring timely and culturally safe psychiatric assessments and interventions for acute behavioural disturbances.
The successful candidate will contribute to refining and evaluating our Integrated Collaborative Care Model for Emergency Psychiatry. This includes developing timely interventions and coordinated care pathways, assessing care effectiveness, identifying best practices, and driving collaborative research and governance initiatives.
Requirements- Registration or eligibility for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA).
- Fellowship of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and/or equivalent specialist recognition; demonstrated subspecialty training in Psychiatry.
- Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices.
- Proven experience delivering high-quality service in psychiatry in a public hospital setting.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching (undergraduate and postgraduate) and to professional development of junior staff.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and to communicate with patients, families, and colleagues across multiple sites.
