About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Economist to join our dynamic and forward-thinking team in the Transport, Infrastructure, and Planning department. As an Economist, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of Victoria's transport, infrastructure, and planning landscape.

This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a team that is addressing some of the most pressing challenges facing our state, including cutting emissions, easing congestion, and improving land use planning to bolster housing supply.

You will use your expertise in economics and/or public policy to deliver timely, accurate, and influential advice on a wide range of complex economic, financial, and public policy issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide timely, accurate, and accessible advice on complex economic, financial, and public policy issues.
  • Analyse, interpret, and synthesise information to inform policy development.
  • Contribute to and manage projects across the team to inform policy development.
  • Communicate with and influence internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate within and outside the team on economic, financial, and public policy projects.
About You

We are seeking applications from candidates who can demonstrate:

  • Influence: Demonstrated expertise in effectively forming and influencing stakeholders' views during the policy development process.
  • Conceptual and Problem-Solving Skills: Demonstrated ability to solve complex and ambiguous policy challenges by applying a robust economic policy framework.
  • Analytical Skills: An eye for detail and demonstrated proficiency in interpreting and synthesising diverse information sources, including quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Communication: Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex economic and policy issues in concise, accessible language.
  • Teamwork: Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team and engage constructively with a wide range of stakeholders.
Experience and Qualifications

Tertiary qualifications in economics, public policy, commerce, law, or a related field are an advantage.
