Solicitor - Youth Legal Specialist
About the RoleThe Shopfront Youth Legal Centre is seeking a highly skilled Solicitor to join their team. As a Solicitor, you will be responsible for providing legal representation and advice to victims of sexual assault and family violence, as well as those experiencing homelessness or significant disadvantage.
Key Responsibilities- Legal Representation: Assist with victims' support applications, provide advice and support for victims and witnesses around criminal charges and AVO applications, and advocate with police and other agencies.
- Criminal Defence: Represent defendants in Local Court with complex needs and varied case severity.
- Broader Legal Advice: Provide legal advice and referrals in areas such as family law, care and protection, fines, civil and administrative law.
- Community Legal Education: Deliver community legal education and update legal resources for young people and youth services.
- Policies and Law Reform: Contribute to policy and law reform based on expertise.
- Post-Admission Experience: At least 2 years of post-admission experience.
- Expertise: Expertise in at least one of the following areas: applications for victims' support, criminal law advocacy, or demonstrated capacity to develop further expertise in the other area.
- Client Engagement: Demonstrated experience working with clients with high and complex needs, especially those with trauma histories, mental health issues, and cognitive impairments.
