Job Summary

CQUniversity is seeking a reliable and experienced Research Support Specialist to join our Coastal Marine Ecosystems Research Centre (CMERC) team. As a Coxswain and Research Vessel Operator, you will be responsible for operating CMERC research vessels, including RV Mudskipper and RV Grit, and performing various tasks such as boat cleaning and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate CMERC research vessels, including RV Mudskipper and RV Grit, in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Perform pre-departure checks, provide crew inductions, and maintain logs and incident reports.
  • Conduct boat cleaning and maintenance tasks, including launching and retrieving boats.
  • Work closely with CMERC staff to support research activities on the water.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of coastal waterways in the Gladstone region.
  • Current Queensland Manual Open Driver's Licence.
  • Working knowledge of acts, regulations, and standards relating to Domestic Commercial Vessels.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
  • AMSA Certificate of Competency Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal (or above) with three years' experience operating commercial vessels.
  • Short range operator certificate of proficiency (SROCP) (or equivalent) or higher.
  • General Purpose Hand Certificate (previously Elements of Shipboard Safety).

Desirable Qualifications

  • 4WD certification.
  • Current Certificate in Provide First Aid HLTAID011 (or equivalent).
  • Current Certificate in CPR HLTAID009 and Provide Advanced Resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy HLTAID015.
  • Previous experience in research support.
