About the Opportunity
We are seeking a skilled Geochemist to join our Environmental Services team at Stantec Consulting International Ltd.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in water quality and geochemistry, with experience in performing field programs, environmental assessments, and permitting activities for various projects, particularly in the mining sector.
Main Responsibilities
- Promote a safe working environment and actively participate in Stantec's Health, Safety, Security, and Environment Program
- Support geochemical and water quality components of projects, including data analysis, modeling, and monitoring programs
- Interpret and analyze geochemical and water quality data to provide technical support for water resource and environmental projects
- Conduct research on specific technical issues or projects
- Collaborate with other scientific professionals within the practice
- Prepare technical reports and perform QA/QC on technical documents
- Perform data analysis and visualization using technical software
- Conduct and support fieldwork as needed
- Manage project tasks, finances, and schedules
Requirements
- Strong understanding of Canadian and provincial water quality guidelines, legislation, regulations, licensing, and permitting, particularly in the mining sector in British Columbia
- Ability to travel to lead field crews, perform environmental monitoring, or participate in off-site meetings with clients and/or regulatory agencies
- Fundamental understanding of project management principles
- Proven ability to analyze data, conduct research, demonstrate technical knowledge, and problem-solve
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Technical aptitude and proficiency in Microsoft Office software
- Knowledge of water chemistry and contaminant transport modeling software, GIS, three-dimensional visualization software, Excel, database software, etc.
- Experience preparing environmental assessments/impact statements and other regulatory applications
- Minimum B.Sc. in Environmental Sciences (e.g., Geology, Hydrogeology, Earth Sciences) with a focus on geochemistry, and preferably an advanced degree
- Professional registration or eligibility (P.Geo. or P.Eng.)
- Minimum 5 years of relevant consulting experience in the mining sector, including mine waste geochemistry assessment, water quality predictions, water quality modeling, or assessing water quality impacts
