About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Software Engineer to join our Software Transformation Team at Bright Horizons Family Solutions. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in preparing our climate models to run on the next generation of supercomputers, ensuring our models are fast and efficient.

Key Responsibilities
  • Profile and benchmark parallel code in a high-performance computing environment, identifying bottlenecks and areas where performance can be improved.
  • Optimise code performance through testing, debugging, and refactoring.
  • Engage with code owners to gather requirements and coordinate developments.
  • Explore the use of new technologies, such as GPU-based algorithms, machine learning, or cloud-based computing, in the context of climate modelling.
  • Stay up to date with the latest developments in high-performance computing related technologies.
Requirements
  • Linux/Unix experience.
  • Experience developing scientific software written in Fortran and/or C++.
  • Experience in profiling and optimising code on HPC systems.
  • Self-learner, good listener, accountable, and passionate about helping others as well as working in a collaborative team environment.
  • Detail-oriented with an ability to handle multiple issues, tasks, and competing priorities concurrently.
  • Commitment to a safe, inclusive, and respectful workplace environment.
Desirable Skills
  • GPU programming (e.g. CUDA, HIP, OpenCL).
  • Experience developing and/or using Machine Learning frameworks and algorithms.
