At BMT, we are on the lookout for a highly qualified Senior Marine Scientist to become a vital part of our innovative team of environmental specialists. Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and conduct marine impact evaluations, ensuring adherence to environmental legislation.
  • Perform research and assessments on marine ecosystems, habitats, and species to guide conservation initiatives.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and execute marine management strategies.
  • Engage with stakeholders, including governmental bodies, NGOs, and local communities, to advocate for sustainable practices.
  • Guide and mentor junior team members, sharing your knowledge to support their professional growth.
  • Work collaboratively across local and broader BMT teams in various offices.

Qualifications for Success:

BMT seeks dedicated and adaptable team members who possess the following qualifications:

Essential:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marine or Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Valid Australian driver's license.
  • Over 5 years of relevant post-graduate experience in marine ecology, with a solid foundation in fieldwork, data analysis, and report preparation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and policies related to marine conservation and management.
  • A proactive problem-solver who excels in a collaborative setting and is passionate about marine conservation.
  • Eligibility to work in Australia without restrictions.

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate degree (Honours, Masters, PhD) in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience in the scientific, engineering, or resource sectors.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in environmental management or a related field.
  • Experience navigating State and Federal legislation for impact assessments and approvals.
  • Willingness to undertake fieldwork in remote locations.
  • Demonstrated business development capabilities.
  • Ability to coach and mentor junior staff.
  • Proven ability to manage and contribute to multiple projects simultaneously.

Location:

This position will be based in our Perth office, which is one of our key APAC locations. Occasional travel to field sites or interstate may be required to collaborate with colleagues.
