About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and influential leader to fill the role of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in the department.

  • Provide financial advice to senior leaders, supporting evidence-based decision-making and strategic resource allocation.
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and financial compliance framework.
  • Drive financial reform and capability uplift across the department, embedding best practice and fostering a culture of accountability and innovation.
  • Partner with senior leaders and operational teams to align financial planning with departmental outcomes, enabling responsive and resilient service delivery.
  • Lead the Finance Branch with integrity and vision, cultivating high-performing teams and strengthening stakeholder relationships across the department and government.

Key Skills

  • Effective communication, trust building, and stakeholder management skills to guide negotiations and influence outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience using financial information to identify organisational impacts and risks.
  • Financial management expertise to influence operational decision-making in a transparent and measured way.
  • Understanding of Government decision-making processes, relevant legislative frameworks, and governance arrangements including the provision of shared services.
  • Strong judgement, initiative, and professionalism to manage complex issues.
  • Proactive leadership and outcomes-focused approach, consultative and collaborative.
