Job Title: Lead Compositor

Framestore is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Compositor to join our Melbourne studio. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading small teams of artists, supporting the Comp Supervisor and HOD, and working on high-end visual effects projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Compositing Supervisor and Visual Effects Supervisor to evaluate creative and technical approaches to assigned shots.
  • Provide briefs and direction to the team, ensuring the appropriate execution of shots.
  • Train and mentor junior artists.
  • Integrate 2D, 3D, and live-action elements to high-end visual effects film standard.
  • Meet schedules and show deadlines.
  • Act as the key contact for production and supervisors, ensuring clear communication and adapting to changes in production and scheduling.
  • Take responsibility for the team's workload, time management, and notes/feedback actions required by Supervisors.
  • Balance creative and technical aspects of each shot.
  • Work with a good knowledge of colour space principles.
  • Establish workflow templates, methods of compositing, and provide documentation for other artists on the team.
  • Ensure department tools are available for your team and properly set up for the show.
  • Attend dailies and present the work of your team, guide artists on how to present work.
  • Provide regular feedback to your artists and ensure quality control for the artists on the team.
Requirements:
  • At least 4 years of experience working in a film VFX pipeline.
  • Previous experience as a Senior or Lead Artist.
  • An excellent working knowledge of and production experience with Nuke.
  • A familiarity with stereo compositing and working with multiple render passes.
  • A strong eye for detail, composition, colour, and lighting.
  • An understanding of colour space principles.
  • A working knowledge of the overall VFX pipeline.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate complex topics relevant to compositing and connected departments.
  • Able to work well under pressure and to deadlines.
  • Excellent organisation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with other departments.
  • A pro-active and collaborative work ethic.
  • The ability to multitask, prioritise, and problem solve.
Desirable Skills:
  • Knowledge of practical lighting for photography.
  • Experience in dealing and communicating with clients.
  • Programming and coding experience and knowledge.
