Electrical Engineering Leader for High-Voltage Substation Projects

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to join our Transmission & Electrification team. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in enhancing our capabilities and reputation by delivering high-quality electrical engineering solutions for our clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct HV (primary) design of transmission & distribution substations including layouts, ratings, sizing, specifying and providing technical oversight.
  • Develop specifications at the project level and equipment level.
  • Use a working knowledge of power system protection and SCADA systems.
  • Use a working knowledge of transmission lines and underground cables.
  • Use a working knowledge of power system earthing design.
  • Support the high voltage scope for Owner's Engineer and Technical Due Diligence projects.
  • Undertake review of designs and reports.
  • Check & verify design work undertaken by other team members.
  • Coach and mentor junior staff in electrical engineering or project delivery.
  • Provide leadership in Safety-in-Design (SID) and fulfilling legislative requirements in SID.
  • Lead design projects and coordinate with various disciplines including civil, structural, geotechnical, secondary, drafting and control systems.
  • Undertake short-term site visits according to business needs.
  • Prepare proposals and contribute to business development for the team.

About You

  • Bachelor's Degree (Electrical Engineering) or Equivalent.
  • Typically, 10-15 years' post-graduate experience.
  • Existing RPEQ/RPEV or the ability to attain is required.
  • Ideally experience in a consultancy environment.
  • Experience in EHV and HV electrical engineering from conceptual to detailed design in substations, cable systems, transmission & distribution utilities or renewable energy projects.
  • Experience in client-facing roles, ability to provide robust advice and support design projects through clear communication of project status, issues and risks.
  • Proficient in proposal and report writing.
