About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Mental Health Occupational Therapist to join our clients' team at a public hospital in Southern Regional New South Wales. This role involves working closely with older adults, focusing on providing high-quality mental health care tailored to their unique needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments of older adults to identify their therapeutic needs.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans and interventions to enhance the mental health and quality of life for older patients.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including doctors, nurses, social workers, and family members, to ensure holistic patient care.
  • Provide education and support to patients and their families regarding mental health issues, coping strategies, and available resources.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and document patient progress, adjusting care plans as needed.
  • Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and contribute to the development of mental health programs within the hospital setting.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices in mental health occupational therapy, particularly for aged care.
  • Advocate for the mental health needs of older adults within the hospital and the wider community.
Salary & Benefits

The hourly salary is around $45-$50 AUD plus superannuation and casual loading. Additional benefits include accommodation provided, travel and flights covered, and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications & Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current general registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Proven experience working as an Occupational Therapist with a focus on mental health, specifically with older adults.
  • Demonstrated experience in aged care settings, preferably within a public hospital.
  • Strong understanding of mental health issues affecting older adults and effective therapeutic interventions.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Compassionate, patient-centered approach with a commitment to improving mental health outcomes.
