About the Role
The Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia seeks to enhance its commitment to reconciliation by engaging Indigenous Liaison Officers (ILOs) to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.
As a Culturally Sensitive Support Specialist, you will work closely with judges and other court officials to provide vital support services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders throughout the Court process.
Your role will involve referring litigants to additional support channels and educating local communities about available resources.
You will need to establish strong relationships with judges, court officers, and community leaders to facilitate effective communication and understanding of Court procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Initiate communication with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander litigants to improve engagement with Court processes;
- Connect litigants to community support and legal services where necessary;
- Support litigants through the Court pathway from filing documents to hearings, dispute resolution events, and child interviews;
- Educate the community on your role, how you can assist, and the Courts' objectives for increased access to family court services;
- Build and maintain external networks with local communities and support agencies.

Requirements
No prior legal experience is required; however, good listening skills, everyday language explanation abilities, and empathy are essential.
You should have strong connections with local communities and be prepared to build upon these relationships.
A strong understanding of Court processes and the ability to explain them in simple terms is also crucial.
Salary Information
This APS5 Level position comes with a competitive salary, ranging between $62,000 and $81,400 per annum, depending on location.
