Issuing Officer

Issues ballot papers to electors on polling day, rotates as a ballot box guard and queue controller, and becomes a counting officer after 6 pm.

  • Works closely with other electoral staff to ensure the election runs smoothly
Student Electoral Officer

Assists in polling place duties performed by officers, limited hours.

  • Assists with various tasks to support the polling process
Voter Information Officer

Engaged centrally through the Electoral Ambassador program, may be assigned to polling places with high concentrations of culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) or indigenous electors, can perform other duties but are largely deployed to assist electors with language, literacy, or other requirements.

  • Works closely with other electoral staff to ensure the election runs smoothly
  • Assists with various tasks to support the polling process
General Assistant

Larger polling places will have one to two General Assistants allocated to them, they may assist with the setup of a polling place on the night before polling for a maximum of three hours, on polling day they start at 5:30 pm to assist with the count and pack up.

Ballot Box Guard

Ensures the correct ballot box papers are put into the ballot boxes, also rotates as an issuing officer and queue controller, becomes a counting officer after 6 pm.

Queue Controller

Manages the queue into the polling place and directs electors as needed, also rotates as an issuing officer and ballot box guard, becomes a counting officer after 6 pm.
