Information for Specialist International Medical Graduates.

To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector, it is essential that you are an Australian citizen or hold permanent residency status in Australia.

We welcome applications from Specialist International Graduates (SIMGs); however, are only able to appoint those who have received an outcome determination of 'substantially comparable' due to the limitation in supervision provisions.

Those who have not applied to RACP for a Specialist Assessment will be placed on hold and not assessed until the RACP determination can be provided.

The RACP Specialist Assessment process determines whether the training and qualifications of SIMG's are comparable to those of Australian-trained specialists in General Medicine.

This assessment is crucial for ensuring that all practitioners comply with Australia standards.

Please note: In line with the requirements of the Medical Board of Australia Registration Standards: Specialist Registration, it is a breach of National Law for practitioners to use the protected 'Specialist' title if they do not hold specialist registration with AHPRA.

SIMGs who complete a supervision period with RACP as part of the specialists assessment process cannot be appointed to a consultant specialist position with WACHS until the practitioner holds specialist registration and it is reflected on the AHPRA website.

In the interim, WACHS can appoint suitable applicants as a Senior Medical Practitioner, Health Service Medical Practitioner or District Medical Officer while supporting the completion of the supervision period.

An individual assessment of a SIMG application will determine the appropriate classification to which practitioners can be appointed.

Recruitment agencies presenting medical practitioners to WACHS must be a WACHS approved supplier.

How to apply:

Applying is straightforward. When you are ready, click here MedCareersWA – Ref and include the following with your application:

  • A comprehensive CV that clearly outlines your experience and skills in chronological order.
  • Complete your online application form and respond to the built-in Eligibility Criteria Questions.

Applications from medical practitioners who hold Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and General Medicine trainees who are in their penultimate year of training and have completed all training requirements, are strongly encouraged.

We encourage you to contact the Medical Recruitment Team via email at . Include a brief description of the region(s) you are interested in, and we can assist in arranging a discussion with the most appropriate person within that location.

Other Conditions:

WA Health engages staff in positions of trust and responsibility.

WA Health policies require applicants to undertake criminal records screening and integrity checking as part of the appointment process.

Referees may also be asked to comment on an applicant's integrity and past demonstration of ethical behaviour.

Please note this recruitment process requires completion of satisfactory Pre-Employment Health Assessment (PEHA).

Any offer of employment with WACHS is conditional on satisfactory PEHA to ensure you are able to perform the inherent requirements of the position.

An unsatisfactory PEHA will result in the offer of employment being withdrawn.

Please see the attached WACHS PEHA Policy for further information.
