About the Role

The University of Notre Dame Australia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Student Counsellor to join our Student Experience portfolio. As a Student Counsellor, you will play a critical role in providing professional counselling services to students, facilitating their personal, emotional, social, and educational transition and adjustment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Confidential Counselling Services: Provide confidential and ethical counselling services to University students, referring them to external agencies as needed to support long-term counselling objectives.
  • Assessment and Case Management: Conduct assessments, case management, and referrals for students, including those in high-risk situations and with complex mental health concerns.
  • Supervision and Quality Assurance: Participate in peer and group supervision, client outcome evaluation, and quality assurance processes, including maintaining accurate student records and associated documentation.
  • Crisis Intervention and Support: Deliver crisis intervention support and strategies with students, providing referrals to those affected by incidents involving students.
  • Workshops and Training: Develop and deliver workshops, training, and group facilitation on topics such as client-centred and short-term solution-focused counselling, CBT, ACT, and mindfulness.
  • Collaboration and Liaison: Collaborate with other departments to provide strategic and specialist input on the development of University mental wellbeing, safety, pastoral care, mediation, and learning support for students.
Requirements
  • Relevant Qualifications: Hold relevant tertiary qualifications in psychology or counselling and have relevant experience with an understanding of the higher education sector and student challenges.
  • Experience and Skills: Possess significant experience in delivering workshops with individuals and groups, holding registration with a relevant professional body, and demonstrating ability to provide a range of counselling services tailored to student needs.
  • Communication and Organisational Skills: Demonstrate strong communication and presentation skills, as well as the ability to manage time, hold strong organisational skills, and respond to changing priorities.
