We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled lawyer to join our Litigation and Dispute Resolution Branch as a Managing Principal Solicitor. This is a 12-month fixed-term opportunity that offers a unique chance to lead and supervise a team of lawyers and paralegals, while providing high-level legal advice to the Victorian Government.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in handling complex and sensitive litigation, particularly in the areas of State care, personal injury, and negligence claims. They will be dynamic, responsive, and have demonstrated people leadership capability, with a proven ability to supervise, mentor, and develop a team of lawyers.
The role requires collaboration and a willingness to share knowledge and experience across the Branch, contributing to initiatives that promote a positive and cohesive working environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the structure and culture of government, as well as the political and legal sensitivities of operating within the public sector.
About the BranchThe Litigation and Dispute Resolution Branch is a team of approximately 60 legal practitioners and 35 legal support staff, providing specialist legal services to a large number of government clients and departments. The Branch enjoys an extraordinary diversity of exciting and challenging litigation, working on matters that are topical and often involve public interest issues.
Matters cover areas such as general civil claims, tortious claims, personal injury claims by prisoners, police civil claims, negligence, State care and personal injury matters, commercial law, defamation, injunctions, contempt of court, judicial review, vexatious litigant applications, statutory interpretation, inquests, Crimes (Mental Impairment & Unfitness to be Tried) Act matters, supervision order matters, subpoenas, warrants of seizure and sale.
