Lead Family Violence Initiatives Lawyer

The successful candidate will play a key role in supervising a small team of community lawyers and a paralegal, ensuring high-quality legal practice and compliance. This includes leading the SAGE program within ECLC's Family Violence Initiatives, overseeing referrals, coordinating service delivery, mentoring lawyers, and helping build the legal capability of the team.

Additionally, this position contributes to stakeholder engagement, service integration, community legal education, and continuous improvement across the centre's integrated family violence partnership programs.

Responsibilities:
  • Supervise a small team of community lawyers and a paralegal to ensure high-quality legal practice and compliance.
  • Lead the SAGE program within ECLC's Family Violence Initiatives.
  • Oversee referrals and coordinate service delivery.
  • Mentor lawyers and build the legal capability of the team.
  • Contribute to stakeholder engagement, service integration, and community legal education.
  • Drive continuous improvement across integrated family violence partnership programs.
  • Occasionally undertake direct casework or provide representation in family violence and family law matters.
Essential Skills and Experience:
  • Hold an unrestricted practising certificate in Victoria.
  • Lead with empathy and a collaborative approach.
  • Experience or aptitude in supervising, mentoring, and working within an integrated legal model.
  • Strong understanding of the Family Violence Protection Act 2008 and Family Law Act 1975.
  • Experience working with women from diverse communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and culturally and linguistically diverse groups.
