Job Title:

About the Role:

The Environmental Advisor position plays a pivotal role in the strategic management of environmental compliance, promoting sustainable practices and ensuring regulatory adherence within defence operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement robust environmental management systems to minimize the impact of defence activities on the environment.
  • Conduct comprehensive environmental assessments and risk evaluations to identify potential hazards and areas for improvement.
  • Provide expert advice on best practices for pollution prevention, waste management and environmental conservation.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of environmental regulations and ensure compliance with local, state and federal laws.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to establish and maintain environmental policies and procedures.
  • Deliver training and guidance to enhance environmental awareness and promote a culture of environmental stewardship.
  • Monitor and report on environmental performance, including air and water quality, emissions and waste disposal practices.
  • Serve as a liaison with regulatory agencies and environmental advocacy groups to address concerns and maintain positive community relations.
  • Participate in emergency response planning and preparedness to mitigate environmental incidents and ensure prompt remediation.
  • Frequent travel across defence sites is required.

Ideal Attributes / Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience is preferred.
  • Experience in environmental management, ideally within the defence or energy sector.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, environmental impact assessments and sustainability practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence diverse stakeholders.
  • Australian citizenship is required for Defence Clearance purposes.
