Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Officer and Team Leader to join our Privacy and Information Access Team at AUSTRAC. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the organisation's freedom of information and privacy responsibilities under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth) and the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

Key Responsibilities
  1. FOI and Privacy Coordination: Assist the Team Leader and Manager with the coordination of AUSTRAC's FOI and privacy functions, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.
  2. FOI Application Processing: Process FOI applications, including complex ones requiring statutory interpretation, and ensure timely and accurate responses.
  3. Team Supervision and Development: Supervise junior team members, allocate work, and review draft decisions to ensure high-quality outcomes.
  4. Policy and Procedure Development: Assist in the development of procedures and systems for best practices in FOI and privacy management.
  5. Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with internal and external stakeholders on privacy and information access matters, including the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Strong knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth) and the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in FOI and privacy management, preferably in a government agency or regulatory body
