
Therapeutic Family Support Specialist

This position involves providing direct therapeutic support and intervention to understand, respond to and support children and young people who have engaged in harmful sexual behaviours & experienced sexual assault.
The role also encompasses clinical leadership with regard to the development and implementation of appropriate therapeutic support for children and young people within their particular care setting, including out of home care, and works closely with professionals and carers to develop trauma-informed therapeutic approaches to support children and young people.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct therapeutic support and intervention to understand, respond to and support children and young people who have engaged in harmful sexual behaviours & experienced sexual assault.
- Develop and implement appropriate therapeutic support for children and young people within their particular care setting, including out of home care.
- Work closely with professionals and carers to develop trauma-informed therapeutic approaches to support children and young people.
- Professional Qualifications: Hold an appropriate tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work or a related discipline.
- Experience: Have substantial experience in the area of children abuse and/or working with traumatised children.
- Team player: Demonstrate capacity to communicate effectively and positively within a team environment and external partners and stakeholders.
- Experience: Be well-versed in working with children and young people who display harmful sexual behaviours, and possess transferable skills to provide therapeutic counselling and support to children, young people and families using various client-focused, trauma-informed modalities that support healing from trauma.
- Assessment skills: Demonstrate capacity to undertake therapeutic assessments using psychometric tools to enhance understanding, assessment and need of the child or young person.
- Collaborative Approach: Demonstrate commitment to working collaboratively and ability to negotiate and liaise with parents, carers, external stakeholders and government departments.
- Professionalism: Understand the complexity of the service system and the issues involved in providing services to statutory clients.
- Commitment to improving oneself: Remain open to ongoing learning and reflection on practice.
- Practical requirements: Possess a current Victorian Working with Children Check and drivers licence.
