We're looking to expand our Brisbane team and invite experienced medico-legal solicitors with an unsupervised practising certificate to join us.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver high-quality, timely legal advice and services to Avant Insurance claims managers and members.
  • Provide professional, thorough, and effective legal services to achieve the best outcome for Avant's members.
  • Offer oral and written legal advice on civil claims and professional conduct matters, including Medical Board investigations, Coronial inquests, Medicare reviews, and employment matters.
  • Provide general medico-legal advice to Avant members.
  • Represent members in legal proceedings, preparing for and attending court, tribunals, or inquiries, and achieving the best outcome through clear and persuasive advocacy.
  • Participate in a roster for providing telephone medico-legal advice to Avant members, including occasional after-hours availability.

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • Relevant tertiary legal qualifications.
  • An eligible unsupervised practising certificate as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland.
  • Demonstrated post-admission experience in health law, including medical negligence and professional conduct-related litigation.
  • Previous experience in conducting all phases of professional conduct cases.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High-level prioritisation, time management, and self-management skills.
  • The ability to mentor and support junior team members.
  • Good computer literacy and competency to work in an electronic document management environment.
