Job Title: Chief Risk Officer

At RAC, we are seeking a highly experienced and dynamic Chief Risk Officer to lead our risk management efforts across the RAC Group.

About the Role

The Chief Risk Officer will play a senior leadership role in safeguarding RAC's assets and reputation by balancing risk and regulatory demands with commercial objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive risk management strategy across RAC Group and its subsidiaries, ensuring alignment with regulatory frameworks.
  • Promote a strong culture of risk awareness at all levels, collaborating with leaders across the organisation to embed risk management in business processes.
  • Oversee the management and delivery of risk mitigation strategies across financial, operational, regulatory, and reputational domains.
  • Regularly assess risks and monitor the effectiveness of mitigation strategies, ensuring compliance with all relevant standards and regulations.
  • Provide strategic advice and risk reports to the board, executive team, and senior management to ensure informed decision-making.
  • Lead and support a high-performing risk team, fostering a culture of mentorship, collaboration, and results-driven outcomes.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, to ensure RAC's compliance and risk management practices are robust and up-to-date.
  • Manage the financial performance of the risk team, identifying opportunities for efficiency and process improvements.
Requirements
  • Significant experience in risk management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Extensive knowledge of Australian regulatory requirements and risk management in the financial services industry.
  • Experience in implementing practical risk management frameworks, including responses to emerging risks (e.g. cyber, privacy).
  • Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to foster collaboration and innovation.
  • Strong business insight and financial acumen.
  • Ability to build trusted relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strategic mindset with a focus on delivering results and managing ambiguity.
  • High-level analytical skills, including the ability to conduct complex financial research and analysis.
  • Courage to address difficult issues and promote a solutions-focused and pragmatic approach to risk management.
  • Tertiary qualification in finance, business, risk management, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • Professional certifications from relevant institutes is desirable (e.g. Risk Management Institute of Australasia, Governance Institute of Australia).
