About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as a Director of Maritime Environmental Policy. As a key member of our Environment Policy and Standards team, you will play a critical role in shaping Australia's response to emerging environmental protection issues in the maritime sector.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in policy development, analysis, and implementation, with a focus on environmental protection and maritime issues. You will be responsible for formulating, examining, and evaluating policy and making recommendations on policy issues related to international maritime conventions and their implementation in Australia.

You will work closely with our Senior Director, Environment Policy and Standards, and lead a small team to identify and pursue engagement opportunities, both internationally and domestically, and provide recommendations on how Australia should respond to emerging maritime issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and administer policy, legislation, and international conventions related to maritime environmental protection
  • Conduct research and analysis to develop policy and regulatory options or advice
  • Engage effectively with stakeholders, including government agencies, industry representatives, and international organizations
  • Provide recommendations on policy issues related to maritime environmental protection
  • Lead a small team to achieve policy objectives
Requirements
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent work experience in a policy or regulatory role
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and deliver results to a high standard in a timely manner
  • Strong communication, policy, and regulatory skills
  • Ability to engage effectively with stakeholders
  • Relevant experience in a policy or regulatory role, preferably in a senior level position
