Animal Care Professional

About the Role

As an Animal Care Professional, you will make a significant difference in the lives of creatures great and small by providing essential care and attention to animals at our shelter. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Providing exceptional levels of animal care, including general husbandry, dietary requirements, and enrichment.
  • Assisting in animal health examinations and administering routine veterinary preventative treatments and medications.
  • Maintaining high standards of shelter cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Providing training and behavior modification for animals in care using positive, reward-based techniques.
  • Ensuring effective communication of animal health, behavior, and wellbeing.
  • Avoiding complacency by adhering strictly to standard operating procedures.
  • Collaborating with other departments to ensure the needs of the animals are met.
  • Assisting in the animal adoption process.
  • Ensuring customers comply with local regulations.

Our team primarily works with domestic animals, including dogs, cats, livestock, and small pets.

Requirements

We seek individuals who possess the following qualities:

  • Relevant qualification in animal-related studies would be beneficial.
  • Experience in animal husbandry and handling; verbally and visually identifying and describing body language.
  • Passion for animal welfare and commitment to long-term goals.
  • Excellent organisational skills, time management, and ability to cope under pressure.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including conflict resolution.
  • Minimum age 18 years old.
